Good For Your Heart Oats

Start your day off right with a cozy bowl of the easiest oatmeal ever.  This breakfast will not only give you a brain and energy boost, it's got all the right ingredients to keep (or get) your cholesterol levels down and promote heart health...and it tastes SO good.

So if you don't have these ingredients on hand already, next time you're at the store, make sure to stock up because these are definite keepers!

1/4 cup old fashioned oats (I use Whole Foods brand organic)
1/2 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
2 teaspoons chia seeds
Pinch vanilla or cinnamon
Handful walnut pieces
1 tablespoon pumpkin butter (TJ's brand rocks!)

Place first five ingredients into a small saucepan on medium high heat and stir for 2-3 minutes.  Serve into a bowl and finish with a spoon of pumpkin butter and walnut pieces.

PS- as long as you keep the base of this recipe the same ensuring you get all those heart healthy benefits, you should absolutely get creative here!  Instead of pumpkin butter, add your favorite nut butter and jam or a drizzle of honey, fruit (bananas are my favorite), change up the nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios) and I also like to add pumpkin seeds or dates depending on my mood!
